Keratoprosthesis
Keratoprosthesis
Keratoprosthesis (KPro) is an artificial corneal transplant. This surgery is performed if a traditional corneal transplant has failed. The KPro can offer a restored vision in patients that are unable to undergo traditional corneal transplantation.
The follow up includes antibiotics to prevent infection, as well as a bandage contact lens that prevents dryness of the artificial cornea. In the first year after this surgery, patients will need to be seen every few weeks to monitor for appropriate healing.
