Diabetic Eye Diseases

What is Diabetic Eye Disease?

If you have been diagnosed with Diabetes, you should have a dilated eye examination at least once a year. Diabetes affects the small blood vessels in your eye and can cause bleeding. Bleeding from Diabetes, also known as diabetic retinopathy, can lead to permanent vision loss. Diabetes can also cause fluctuations in visions that require changes to your eyeglass prescription.

Mild diabetic retinopathy can be managed with diet, exercise, medications and good blood sugar control. Moderate to severe diabetic retinopathy may require laser treatment or retinal injections. At every dilated eye examination, we will check for any changes due to Diabetes.
